One of the features I would like to have in my app would be a thought journal. The reason why I chose this was because I feel like writing your thoughts down is a good way of relieving stress and calming you down, as well as being able to track your mental health. Some of the ways you can track and maintain your mental health in a journal are:
Keeping track of habits, good and bad, that affect your mental health, as well as behaviours and how you’re feeling physically. They suggested setting goals first before you begin that are realistic.
Track your moods, and also expand on them and talk about why you felt that way and what affected it or caused the mood.
Done list – instead of a to-do list, you can have a done list that lists everything you’ve completed in one day as it will give you a sense of accomplishment.
Gratitude log – a log of things you’re thankful for, whether it be that day, that week or that month.
Rant box – an area where you can rant about whatever you want and whatever bothered you that day.
Debriefing therapy sessions – if the user goes to therapy, they can write about the session, how they felt, what happened, etc.
Nutrition tracker – healthy eating is one of many ways to keep you both physically and mentally healthy. A tracker for what you eat is a good way of monitoring how healthy you’re eating.
Self care ideas – a section where you can write down anything you feel would cater for your self care and make you feel better.
Even though the journal feature will be digital, I can use these ideas and tips and implement them into my own app. Also, the style and design of the journal is something I can keep in mind when designing this feature for my app – in the article they provide different types of layouts that can be implemented. All of the ideas can’t be used in my app as the journal is just one feature, but ones like the Rant box, self-care ideas, gratitude log and the overall health tracker would be the important ones to consider.
