Mind Your Selfie is a series of eBooks that are aimed to give college students information about mental health, the causes, how to deal with it and more. It’s apart of the Walk In My Shoes site. View the eBook here.
The eBooks speak about many different things, such as:
Suggestions on how to deal with starting college by joining clubs and societies, connecting with classmates and staying in touch with your family and friends.
How to help someone who is dealing with mental health difficulties.
Information and statistics on mental health in Ireland for students and adults.
Some of the different types of mental health disorders – behavioural, emotional and mental – e.g. depression, ADHD.
Causes and influences of Mental Health Disorders including biological and environmental.
How to spot the signs of Mental Health Disorders through feelings, behaviours, actions and experiences.
What to do and who to contact if you’re having difficulties.
This eBook has a lot of good visual information for students that is vital. It gives you everything you need – statistics, the causes, what to do, how to deal with starting college and how to spot the signs. Learning about these things is essential for me as I need to be informed about the science and facts behind mental health, and it’s also information that students need to know.
The style of the eBook is nice enough, however I feel some pages are quite cluttered and could be spread out onto another page. The illustrations are effective and work well with the eBook. These are factors I need to consider with my app – I don’t want anything to be too cluttered and I want it to look nice (however the effectiveness of the app is not based on how good it looks!)
I don’t really understand the idea behind the name, MindYourSelfie. Obviously, the MindYourSelf part is about minding your mental health but the selfie part I don’t understand as there is nothing in the eBook about selfies, or how selfies affect/help your mental health. Another thing I should note is that you’re able to get the eBook in different languages to suit all college students.
Other than that, I like the idea of an eBook and the information inside it.
