Inspiration – Ways to Boost Your Mood

Ways to Boost Your Mood Immediately is a blog post written by The Holy Mess. Basically, as the title explains, it’s different ways (101 ways, actually) on how to boost your mood.

I’m not going to post all 101 ideas that were written, just the ones that I feel are the most important ones:

  • Walk a dog.
  • Stretching exercises.
  • Breathing exercises.
  • Talk to a friend.
  • Journal feelings.
  • Listen to music.
  • Light a candle.
  • Wrap up in a soft sweater.
  • Get dressed up to feel pretty/handsome.
  • Drink water.
  • Watch funny You Tube videos.
  • Listen to soothing sounds — water flowing, ocean waves, wind chimes.
  • Walk in nature.
  • Go on a bike ride.
  • Drive somewhere new.
  • Do a random act of kindness.
  • Take a bath.
  • Turn off all electronics.
  • Write a gratitude list.
  • Forgive someone.
  • Write a letter.
  • Do yoga poses.
  • Go to therapy.
  • Put on music and dance around the house.
  • Clean something.
  • Organize something.
  • Fix something.
  • Volunteer at a shelter.
  • Donate items you don’t need.
  • Learn something new.
  • Look through old photos.
  • Watch a hilarious movie and laugh your head off.
  • Watch a sad movie and cry your eyes out.
  • Give yourself a hand and foot massage.
  • Use favorite lotion.
  • Drive in the car with the windows down.
  • Buy a new pair of shoes.
  • Get a haircut.
  • Remind yourself, “I won’t always feel this way.”
  • Call a far-away friend.
  • Let in natural sunlight.
  • Take a mental health day.
  • Use a stress squeeze ball.
  • Binge watch a Netflix series.
  • Smell lavender or orange. (proven to boost mood)
  • Try something new.

I like most of these tips in the blog, however some I felt some linked in with each other and others wouldn’t suit everyone. Similar to the previous post with tips for positive mental health, these tips would be useful for my project for a section in the home page of the app.

They also provided a small poster with 8 of the tips on it. I like the style of the poster, it’s colourful and grabs your attention and there isn’t too much going in it. The little illustrations that go hand in hand with the tips are a nice touch too.
