Getting back into the swing of things

Well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve last posted – in between finishing assignments for other modules due in late December / early January, as well as taking a few days off for Christmas – it’s been busy, but admittedly tough to be productive again and get into the correct mindset again.

The presentation for our FYP prototype has crept up quietly… didn’t realise how close it was! For Wednesday the 11th @ 9am, we need to have our prototype finished as well as a document outing the prototype. Then that evening, our presentation materials are due, with our presentations taking place on the Thursday & Friday.

There’s a lot to do – the Prototype document that was given to us before the break outlined what they were looking for regarding each different treatment. For an app, this is the sore of thing they’re looking for:

  • App statement
  • Refined feature list
  • Initial set of sample personas / early analysis of user needs
  • Initial wireframes / storyboards
  • Mockups / Initial visual designs
  • Colour schemes, font selections etc.
  • Branding ideas
  • Some technical experiments
  • Implemented in an interactive technology or simulated using other media (digital or physical)

Fortunately, I have some aspects of what they want done already – I have the app statement, feature list, user personas and the colour schemes complete. I have some wireframes done also but I will be doing a series of those, testing out layouts to see which works best.

What I really need to focus on is an actual app prototype – showing how it works and how to use it. Also, branding is important too (better get my thinking cap on for a suitable name!) as well as mockups.

Gonna be a busy few days..!
